LIST | 5 players Eddie Jones should drop and who must replace them

If recent performances are anything to go by, School chums Farrell and Ford need a kick up the backside. The England captain seems to have forgotten how to kick at goal and somehow missed nine tackles against Wales and France while Ford displayed as much attacking intent as Scooby Doo face-to-face with a ghost.

They’re both squeaky clean and good professionals but it’s gone stale and who can blame them after seven-ish years. 

Simmonds was on top form again this weekend and has been a joy to watch in the Premiership for a while now. It might cheer fans up to see them bring that flair to the international stage.

Daly kicks well, but.offers very little. The New Zealand‑born full-back has been playing very well for Gloucester and has already been included in an England training squad. With Eddie Jones revealing he is looking for competition for George Furbank at full-back, Woodward could find himself winning his first full cap at some point in the future. Josh Hodge from Exeter is another exciting player who it might be nice to see feature.

The powerhouse has been been like a rampaging bull since making his return to the Premiership following a disappointing stint in that other sport. Operating as the Falcons chief ball carrier in their opening two wins against Bath and Sale, Burrell is probably the closest  human battering ram around to Manu Tuilagi. 

He’s revealed he’d love to play for England again, and if he and Newcastle continue to impress you wouldn’t rule it out. Although, the talk of Ben Earl playing in the midfield probably gives him horrible flashbacks to 2015 when the waste of time Sam Burgess stole his World Cup spot. 

Not the most hipster selection by any means, but someone who’d fit into the current system and make the team better. Farrell offers nothing at centre.

He made his debut for the Cherry & Whites in 2013 as a 17-year-old, partnering World Cup winner Mike Tindall in the centre of an LV= Cup match, and has since gone on to prove himself as one of the brightest talents at Kingsholm. A World Rugby U20 Championship winner in 2016, Thorley has pace, power and an eye for the try line.

Watson hasn't been at his best for a while now, and Thorley deserves his chance.

He’s a bit of a renegade, but after five tries in two games the numbers joining his cause are growing almost by the hour. 

Despite his ways being unconventional at times, it gets results. However, that’s not what commander Jones is looking for. The Aussie is like a chess player (control freak) and he wants this piece to be an absolute unit to carry, tackle and occasionally score a pushover try. 

Hopefully, talent prevails, but in this case it’s more likely that Jones ignores fans and carries on replacing like-for-like.
