These five contenders for next years British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa did their chances no favours with poor performances during the final round of the 2020 Six Nations.
1. Jonathan Davies
Simply awful. Given slip by Blair Kinghorn just before break and Jamie Ritchie went past him in a dangerous position in second half. Davies’ day, which included four missed tackle, was summed up with a fumble late on. He’s better than this.
2. Jacob Stockdale (Ireland)
His decision making and handling in Paris throughout was really poor. Two fumbles in quick succession, the second led to a penalty try and a Doris sin bin. His concentration in defence was lacking and takes away from his undoubted class going forward.
3. Taulupe Faletau (Wales)
The days of the big man dominating matches are rapidly becoming distant memories. A shadow of his former self before being replaced half way through the second-half.
4. Anthony Watson (England)
Starved of ball for much of the game before being replaced on 53 minutes. When he did get the ball, he ran too laterally, and hard to escape the feeling he is better suited to playing full-back.
5. Conor Murray (Ireland)
The playmaker started brightly against France, but levels fell off a cliff thereafter. He needed to hustle quicker to get out to Gael Fickou in the build-up to France’s opening try. Missed a couple of tackles, gave away a penalty, one or two unsympathetic passes. Uninspiring.
