Joe Schmidt names a 40-man Wallabies squad for 2026 training camp

The Wallabies have confirmed a 40-player group will assemble in Sydney on January 5 for a short pre-season camp, giving Joe Schmidt and his coaching staff one final opportunity to review the 2025 Test campaign before attention shifts fully to a demanding 2026 calendar.

Players will spend three days with the national programme completing physical and medical testing following their off-season break, as well as participating in a full debrief of last year’s performances. They will then return to their Super Rugby Pacific clubs to begin preparations for the upcoming domestic season.

Australia will not reassemble again until after Super Rugby Pacific concludes, with Schmidt’s side set for a 14-Test blockbuster international season, featuring home clashes against Ireland, France and Italy, plus a full Rugby Championship and a European tour that includes New Zealand, England, Scotland and Wales.

Schmidt said the early-January gathering would be valuable for alignment and clarity heading into a crucial year.

“The couple of days we have together in early January will provide a final opportunity to look back on, and learn from, a demanding 2025 Test campaign.

“It also provides a chance to complete some national testing and check in with the players from a medical perspective before they return to their Super Rugby Pacific clubs ahead of the 2026 season.”
