Joe Marler breaks silence after fans call for prop to be cited for high tackle

During the match, referee Jaco Peyper communicated to Fiji's captain Nayacalevu that the officials couldn't locate any camera angles that definitively depicted head contact, consequently allowing play to proceed.

The potential for additional footage to surface means that Marler hasn't escaped repercussions just yet.

This was evident as Nayacalevu shook his head when the incident was deliberated upon in Fiji's post-match media briefing.

Simon Raiwalui, the head coach of Fiji, commented, "The tackle was unmistakably high and a direct hit to the head."

Ignoring the calls for him to be cited, Marler said: ,"Congratulations @fijirugby “paaak” - gutted we couldn’t get the result for @Courtney_Lawes - huge milestone for a top player. Thanks to the fans for your support, we will try and do better in France x"

However, England need a ball carrier in this role and he didn’t do this, his struggle encapsulated by the flapped attempted catch of a Ford crossfield kick with his team chasing on the scoreboard."
