Since joining the Championship in 2000, the Azzurri have slowly ticked off victories against each of their rivals. England were the final hurdle. Here is a look back at the first time Italy defeated every other nation in the competition.

Italy completed a historic milestone in the 2026 Six Nations by recording their first ever victory over England, winning 23-18 in Rome and ensuring they have now beaten every nation in the Championship.

After years of near misses in the fixture, Italy finally broke through at the 33rd attempt. The decisive period came in the second half when yellow cards for Sam Underhill and Maro Itoje left England down to 13 players and allowed the Azzurri to take control in front of a jubilant Stadio Olimpico crowd.

For England and head coach Steve Borthwick, the defeat deepened a miserable campaign. It was a third successive loss in the 2026 Championship and raised uncomfortable questions with the Rugby World Cup only 18 months away.

England now head into their final-round meeting with France trying to avoid finishing the tournament with just one win, something that has never happened to them in Six Nations history.

For Italy, however, the result marked the completion of a long journey since joining the competition in 2000.

Italy’s first Six Nations victory came in their very first match in the competition when they defeated defending champions Scotland 34-20 in Rome.

The Azzurri marked their debut with a statement performance inspired by fly-half Diego Dominguez. The playmaker scored 29 of Italy’s 34 points with six penalties, a conversion and three drop goals in a masterclass of game management.

The result immediately silenced many critics who had questioned whether Italy were strong enough to compete in Europe’s premier international rugby competition.

Italy recorded only their second Six Nations win in 2003 with victory over Wales in Rome.

Led by the influence of Diego Dominguez, the Italians dominated the contest up front, overpowering the Welsh pack and limiting the visitors’ opportunities with the ball.

Tries from Giampiero De Carli, Carlo Festuccia and Matthew Phillips put Italy firmly in control. Wales responded with tries from Tom Shanklin, Steve Williams and Dwayne Peel, but they were always chasing the game as the hosts secured a deserved victory.

Italy produced one of the most memorable results in their Six Nations history in 2011 when they defeated France in Rome.

France arrived as championship contenders but were stunned by a dramatic Italian comeback in the second half. Inspired by captain Sergio Parisse, the Azzurri overturned a significant deficit to claim a famous 22-21 victory.

It was Italy’s first win over France in the Six Nations. Their only previous victory against Les Bleus had come in Grenoble in 1997 when they upset the reigning Grand Slam champions.

Italy finally broke their losing streak against Ireland in the 2013 Championship after 13 unsuccessful attempts.

On a memorable day in Rome, the Azzurri produced a superb performance to claim a 22-15 victory. Giovanbattista Venditti’s try was the highlight of the match, while Luciano Orquera controlled proceedings with the boot.

The result ended Italy’s long wait for a win over Ireland and helped them finish fourth in the final standings, ahead of their opponents. It capped an impressive campaign for the Azzurri, who had also defeated France earlier in the tournament.
