Ireland international says Manu Tuilagi 'should never be let on a rugby field again'

"I have watched the red-card tackle over and over and I find no comfort or mitigation in what Tuilagi did," wrote outspoken Irish critic Neil Francis, who played 36 times for Ireland.

His rant came after the incident that saw Tuilagi crunch George North who was already in the tackle of Henry Slade.

"The number one thought in his head was to stop George North scoring a try under any circumstances. Legal or not.

"That means that Tuilagi didn't care about the consequences of an illegal tackle."

Francis found little sincerity in Tuilagi offering a hand of apology to North when leaving the field in disgrace.

"Try and take someone's head off or leave him permanently incapacitated and then nonchalantly shake hands moments later," he wrote in the Irish Independent.

"Tuilagi should never be let on a rugby field again."

Never a dull moment.

During the 2011 Rugby World Cup. the centre, returning from a day-trip with team-mates, dived overboard at around 7pm in the evening and swam to a nearby pier, where he was detained by waiting police. He was subsequently fined £3,000 by the RFU

He made a 'bunny' gesture with two fingers behind Cameron's head while posing for a photo with British and Irish Lions players on Monday. Tuilagi planned to write a letter of apology, but the Prime Minister insists there is no reason to be sorry.

Young Tuilagi took Ashton out off the ball with a hit that itself could have been worthy of punishment. A little shove to the back of the head followed from Ashton, but Tuilagi stood up and dished out what can only be described as a three punch combination more fitting for the boxing ring than the rugby field.

In August 2017, Tuilagi and Denny Solomona were sent home from England’s training camp after returning to the team hotel drunk on a Saturday night. The news came just days after coach Eddie Jones had praised Tuilagi’s ability and dedication, noting that he was ‘worth waiting for’ after injury setbacks.
