They’ve gone from teenage sweethearts to one of England rugby’s power couples.
The IRFU played a blinder by tying down head coach Andy Farrell with a long-term contract back in 2023, keeping him in charge of the Men’s national team until after the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
And now, in 2025, Farrell’s star has only risen further.

From Wigan warrior to global boss
Since taking over in 2019, Farrell has transformed Ireland into one of the world’s most feared sides. Under his leadership, they’ve scaled to number one in the rankings, sealed a Grand Slam in 2023, and made history with a series win in New Zealand in 2022.
Add a Triple Crown and a Coach of the Year award to the mix, and it’s no surprise he’s one of the most in-demand names in world rugby.
Farrell goes Lions
2025 sees Farrell stepping into one of rugby’s biggest roles: head coach of the British & Irish Lions for their blockbuster tour of Australia. He becomes the first man since Sir Clive Woodward in 2005 to lead the Lions while also serving as a current national team head coach.
He’s already deep into preparations, and the Lions faithful are expecting fireworks.
England’s eyes still wander
With Steve Borthwick already confirmed to step down after the 2027 World Cup—regardless of the outcome—rumours persist that the RFU have Farrell at the top of their wish list.
