"Injury crisis" - England without 12 players for the 2025 Autumn Internationals

A dozen players – including several seasoned internationals – have been ruled out through injury, forcing Borthwick to reshuffle his options and turn to fresh faces.

Among the new inclusions is uncapped Saracens wing Noah Caluori, whose electric Premiership form has earned him a first senior call-up.

However, with experienced names sidelined, England’s depth will be tested as they prepare for a challenging run of fixtures against some of the world’s top sides.

Below is a full breakdown of the unavailable players and the injuries that have ruled them out of selection for the Autumn campaign.

Seb Atkinson (Gloucester Rugby) – A dynamic inside centre who impressed during his England debut earlier this year. Atkinson suffered MCL and quad muscle damage against Bath and has been ruled out for several months, ending his Autumn campaign before it began.

Arthur Clark (Gloucester Rugby) – The promising lock, who has risen through the England age-grade ranks, underwent foot surgery after a training injury. He’s in rehabilitation and will miss the internationals as he continues his recovery.

Ben Curry (Sale Sharks) – A reliable openside flanker with England experience. Curry has been sidelined by a recurring hamstring issue that may require surgery, ruling him out for at least six weeks and making him unavailable for Autumn selection.

Alex Dombrandt (Harlequins) – The powerful No.8 has endured a frustrating injury spell, including a broken hand earlier this season. Though back in training, he remains short of full fitness and will not feature in the Autumn squad.

Charlie Ewels (Bath Rugby) – A seasoned lock who has captained Bath and featured for England. Ewels picked up a knee injury in early October and is expected to spend several weeks on the sidelines.

George Furbank (Northampton Saints) – A versatile back known for his composure under the high ball. Furbank suffered a broken arm followed by soft-tissue setbacks, keeping him out of England contention this Autumn.

Ted Hill (Bath Rugby) – The athletic back-rower has been in fine domestic form but has been forced to see a specialist after aggravating an ankle injury, ruling him out for the remainder of the year.

Emeka Ilione (Leicester Tigers) – One of England’s brightest young forwards, Ilione sustained a shoulder injury during Premiership action. Scans confirmed the damage was significant enough to keep him sidelined for the Autumn series.

Curtis Langdon (Northampton Saints) – The hard-working hooker remains unavailable following shoulder surgery earlier this year. While back in light training, he has not yet reached match readiness for international duty.

Will Muir (Bath Rugby) – The explosive winger has been managing ongoing fitness concerns that have prevented him from reaching top speed. Bath have opted to rest him during the Autumn period to ensure full recovery.

Harry Randall (Bristol Bears) – The electric scrum-half underwent surgery on a severe hamstring tear. With an expected recovery timeline extending into early 2026, he will miss all Autumn fixtures.

Ollie Sleightholme (Northampton Saints) – The prolific try-scorer has been sidelined by a combination of hamstring and ankle ligament issues. After recent surgery, he is targeting a return later in the Premiership season.
