Gloucester pull off HUGE signing as British & Irish Lion heads to Kingsholm

The 25-year-old back-row forward arrives at Kingsholm with a growing reputation as one of the game’s most complete loose forwards. Equally effective in attack and defence, Morgan’s tireless work rate and leadership qualities have already seen him make a significant impact at club and international level.

Morgan has built his reputation in Wales with both the Scarlets and the Ospreys, racking up more than 70 senior appearances across the two regions. His rise was rapid. Strong domestic form, coupled with standout performances as captain of Wales Under-20s, earned him a first senior call-up in 2022. He marked his international debut in style, featuring in a win over Scotland.

His leadership credentials were further underlined when he was named co-captain of the Wales senior side for the 2023 Rugby World Cup alongside Dewi Lake. On the global stage, Morgan’s stock continued to rise last summer when he was selected for the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia.

He impressed throughout the tour, picking up Player of the Match honours against the Queensland Reds and featuring off the bench in both the second and third Tests against the Wallabies.

Gloucester Director of Rugby George Skivington believes Morgan’s arrival is a statement of intent for the club.

“We’re really pleased to get a deal for Jac over the line,” Skivington said. “He’s a genuinely world-class rugby player who has a big impact wherever he goes, and that’s hugely exciting for us.

“Jac would have had plenty of options, so for him to buy into what we’re building here at Kingsholm says a lot about the programme and the ambition we have for the future. We can’t wait to welcome him into the group.”

For Morgan, the move represents a new challenge in a new environment, and one he is eager to embrace.

“I’m delighted to sign for Gloucester Rugby ahead of the 2026/27 season,” he said. “It’s a great club with brilliant supporters. I know a lot of players here who speak highly of the environment, and that really appealed to me.

“I’m excited for what’s ahead and I’m looking forward to testing myself in the Gallagher Premiership.”
