Gloucester player ratings after the Cherry and Whites suffered a heavy defeat to Bristol Bears in the Gallagher PREM.
Bristol dominated the first half, controlling almost all possession and racing in five tries in the opening 40 minutes, with another ruled out for a knock-on in the build-up.
The visitors managed to spark some hope with two tries that came well against the run of play, including one right on the stroke of half-time, despite some ill-discipline which saw them get three yellow cards in the first period.
While Gloucester put up a bit of a fight in the second, their threat was quickly neutralised and the Bears raced into a lead that they never really looked in much doubt of losing.
It petered out into a comfortable victory for Pat Lam's side, who now find themselves just two points from the play-offs with the top four yet to play.

Applied the finishing touch to his side’s first try without having too much to do. Added a couple of solid carries, but saw a promising break end with an intercepted pass.
14 Josiah Edwards-Giraud — 5
A deliberate knock-on resulted in a penalty try and a yellow card. Offered little else beforehand, making it a poor first half and an underwhelming performance overall.

Lost the ball early after Kieran Marmion pounced. Made a crucial block on Tom Jordan’s kick that led to Gloucester’s opening try.
Perhaps fortunate to avoid a trip to the bin for a high tackle, which likely would have been punished if Edwards-Giraud hadn’t knocked on. Not the best performance from the England hopeful.
11 Ollie Thorley — 5
Gave away a needless penalty for offside on his own five metre line, putting his team under pressure. Offered little going forward, although didn't have much of an opportunity.
His best moment was a well chased-down tackle on Kalaveti Ravouvou, however the winger then offloaded and Tom Jordan scored anyways.
10 Charlie Atkinson — 4
Went agonisingly close to a 50/22, missing out by mere centimetres. Was shown a yellow for not releasing and being off his feet, though it did prevent a certain try.
Also threw an intercepted pass that led to Bristol’s sixth, an unnecessarily forced decision. Overall, not his best.
9 Caolan Englefield — 5.5
Pretty average performance in his 45 minute shift. Didn't do too much of note, whilst not making many mistakes.
1 Dian Bleuler — 4
Came in at the side of a maul to concede a needless penalty, and also gave away a scrum penalty.
2 Seb Blake — 2
Picked up an early yellow card for head-on-head contact in the lead-up to Bristol’s opening try, inside the first five minutes, a disastrous start. He then failed his HIA while off the field, meaning his game was over almost immediately.
May be harsh to grade so low, but he will want to forget this game in a hurry.
3 Afo Fasogbon — 7
Held his own in the first scrum, effectively neutralising Ellis Genge after their clash last season. Also involved in a brief altercation with his opposite loosehead at half-time. A solid outing overall.
4 Danny Eite — 6
Celebrated his new deal in fairly forgettable fashion, giving away a penalty on his own five metre line after just a few minutes. Mucked in fairly well defensively, including a good tackle on Ravouvou to stop the fleet-footed Fijian on halfway.
5 Arthur Clark — 5.5
Slow to react in the build-up to Bristol’s third try, with work rate lacking on that phase. Otherwise had an okay but largely ineffective game.
6 Deian Gwynne — 6.5
Scored from close range just on the half. Made a few tackles in the half before that. The Welsh youngster acquitted himself well.
7 Lewis Ludlow — 6.5
Won a lineout steal and put in a number of tackles during the opening period.

Had a brief coming together with Marmion late in the first half, but was otherwise relatively quiet.
