Gallagher Prem Star Braced For International Debut

The 19-year-old has already been part of Steve Borthwick’s squad prior to the autumn internationals and could feature for England in the inaugural Nations Championship.

England face the daunting task of travelling to Johannesburg (July 4) to kick off their summer campaign, followed by facing Fiji in an ‘away fixture’ at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool seven days later.

Borthwick’s side will then return to the southern hemisphere to face Argentina in Santiago del Estero on July 18.

On the matter of playing for England as a teenager, Caluori told BBC’s Rugby Union Weekly podcast that it’s the right time to enter the international arena.

“I feel like now is a good time,” said Caluori, who has scored 18 tries this season in the Prem.

“I would be happy to go on the tour (this summer).”

The winger brilliantly made headlines back in October on his first full start for the StoneX Stadium side as he scored five tries against Sale Sharks.

That eye-catching performance was perhaps the catalyst in seeing the teenager called up to England’s autumn squad, in which he had one outing for England A in November.

Caluori was then absent from England’s Six Nations squad, but instead played for England U20s, highlighting the possibility that it was then too soon for him to play senior international rugby.

“Maybe the autumn or the Six Nations would have been a bit of a rush,” Caluori continued.

“If I were to play (in the Six Nations) earlier this year, it would have been a rush.

“Now is a good time, especially experiencing this run-in with everything on the line for Saracens. It shows how (important) every result is, and that’s similar to a Test match.

“I’ve had some comms [with Borthwick], we’ve had a chat, and I’m just focused on playing my best rugby from now until the end of the season.”
