Gabriel Hamer-Webb: 10 Facts you didn’t know about Wales’ latest debutant

Speaking on Hamer-Webb making his Wales debut, head coach Steve Tandy said:

Born on November 7 2000, in Bath, Hamer-Webb is known for his sheer speed, footwork, and physicality. The winger is 6ft 0 in, weighs 96kg, and currently plays for Gallagher Prem side Leicester Tigers. 

He attended Beechlen Cliff School, Bath, where, alongside his studies, he joined the school’s Academic and Sporting Excellence partnership with Bath Rugby. 

Prior to focusing on a career as a rugby player, like many players, Hamer-Webb played a lot of football. He had trials with Southampton, Bristol City and Yeovil Town before committing to a career in rugby. 

As pretty much expected, the first club he signed for was Bath. In fact, he signed an academy contract ahead of the 2019-20 season. In his first game, he started on the wing in the Premiership Cup against Exeter Chiefs in September 2019. His first win for Bath came against West Country rivals Gloucester away from home. 

Hamer-Webb was part of Alan Dickens' 32-man England squad for the 2020 Six Nations, a championship in which his side finished third. Notably, his debut for England came against France, where the winger was sent off for ten minutes following a tip tackle. 

After being released at the end of the 2022-23 Premiership season, he then joined National Provincial Championship side, Rugby Southland in New Zealand. He only tasted one victory with them against Manawatu in his last game. 

Hamer-Webb signed for Cardiff Rugby in November 2023, on a short-term injury loan. After that, he headed to Northampton on a loan spell, then signed for the Cardiff Arms Park side on a permanent deal in February 2024. 

One of the standout performances for Hamer-Webb in a Blue and Black shirt came against the Ospreys at Judgement Day at Principality Stadium. That day saw the winger impressively score a hat-trick, as Cardiff claimed the spoils 36-19. 

In June 2025, he signed for the Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium side and made his debut against the Saracens.
