French player Axelle Berthoumieu appeared to escape sanction after what looked like an

obvious bite on Aoife Wafer during a breakdown after 42 minutes, leaving fans baffled as to why the TMO didn’t intervene.

One wrote: “At that last breakdown the French player tried to bite Wafers’ arm!!! Why wasn’t that picked up by the TMO?..”

Despite the incident, France pulled off a dramatic turnaround, fighting back from 13-0 down at the break to seal an 18-13 victory. They’ll now face either England or Scotland in the semi-finals.
