France star escapes punishment for awful eye gouge against Scotland

In a bonkers clash that produced 13 tries and 90 points, Scotland dominated for long stretches before a frantic finale saw France pile on a late flurry of tries.
But the match was overshadowed by a huge refereeing controversy involving an alleged eye gouge from a France player.
The incident came moments before France crossed for their bonus-point try, with TV footage appearing to show Oscar Jegou's fingers being driven into the eye area of Ewan Ashman during a maul.
Despite the footage, the referee and TMO took no action, allowing play to continue — leaving fans furious.
Supporters quickly took to social media to slam the officials.
One fan wrote:
“France should have been down to 14 men after the eye gouge.”
Another said:
“How has the TMO not intervened? That’s the clearest red card you’ll ever see.”
Others accused officials of ignoring a blatant act of foul play.
“Eye gouge… play on? Some nations play by different rules,” one post read.
Another furious viewer added:
“The petty things the TMO checks — yet he ignores a blatant eye gouge in the maul. Stonewall red card.”
