Five players England should consider for the Nations Championship

The standalone Test against Fiji in Liverpool is expected to feature a largely second-string side, offering a chance for new faces to stake a claim.

Here, we look at five players pushing strongly for inclusion in the senior England squad this coming summer window.

Searle is arguably the most in-form player in the Prem right now, and if he isn’t at least selected for the clash against Fiji, serious questions should be raised about the squad selection.

While he may not be the most high-profile name, having spent much of his career as a journeyman, he has stepped up impressively for Leicester Tigers this season, particularly in the absence of James O’Connor.

His decision-making has been outstanding, and he has become the focal point of the Tigers’ attack, playing a key role in their strong campaign.

Given Henry Arundell’s struggles, Radwan deserves another opportunity with England. He certainly made an impact during his previous call-up.

On 10 July 2021, he marked his full England debut with a hat-trick in a 70–14 win over Canada at Twickenham. Later that year, he was included in the Autumn Nations Series squad and scored in the third minute against Tonga in a dominant 69–3 victory.

Since joining Leicester Tigers, he has rediscovered top form, scoring 11 tries in as many games towards the end of last season. His blistering pace, finishing ability, and surprising strength make him a dangerous option.

Bamber’s game is built on sheer physicality. The Sale Sharks lock is an imposing presence and could be the next second-row option for England, following the rise of Alex Coles.

He was called up to the England U20 squad in 2021 but missed out due to injury. More recently, he featured for England A against Portugal in February 2024 and was again selected in November 2025.

At just 25, he represents a smart long-term addition to the squad.

Barbeary is a somewhat divisive pick. While he has proven himself at club level, questions remain about whether his discipline can translate to the international stage.

That said, he has been in excellent form for Bath this season and could offer a morale boost following a disappointing Six Nations. He may be an outside contender, but his ability shouldn’t be underestimated.

Furbank is the final name on the list, a player with plenty of England experience who was surprisingly absent during the Six Nations and could be due a recall.

With Freddie Steward struggling for form and Marcus Smith arguably better suited to an impact role, Furbank could step in as the starting full-back.

He made his England debut in the 2020 Six Nations and has since added to his international credentials, including scoring tries against Scotland and Ireland during the 2024 tournament.
