Being one of the most popular players on the globe is likely to generate an incredible fan-base, but we are fairly confident that there are some aspects of Faf de Klerk's life and career you are not familiar with.
Here are five things that you definitely didn't know about the World Cup-winning 29-year-old Sale Sharks and South Africa playmaker.

#1. Early life and real name

Born in Nelspruit (now Mbombela), De Klerk played rugby at Hoërskool Waterkloof in Pretoria. Despite being better known as Faf, his full name is actually Francois de Klerk.

#2. Position change

He might have settled at scrum-half, but de Klerk played at ten while in high school. He’s said that his boot was his biggest weapon at that age – and the impact on his box-kicking now is self-evident!

#3. Partner

Faf has a beautiful Dutch pharmacist girlfriend whose name is Miné van Niekerk. She recently moved to Manchester to live with the Sale Sharks star. Long-term, he's said that he hopes to live somewhere in the Netherlands one day.

#4. Favourite food

His favourite food is schnitzel. A schnitzel is a thin slice of meat. The meat is usually thinned by pounding with a meat tenderizer. Most commonly, the meats are breaded before frying.

#5. Hero

His hero growing up was the late, great Joost van der Westhuizen. Here's a young Faf photoed with the 1995 World Cup winner.
