Ex-Lions star ready to help Australia triumph against Andy Farrell's men after swapping sides

Geoff Parling, the England and Lions lock who played a pivotal role in the 2013 Lions' historic win over the Wallabies, is now on the other side of the battle.

This summer, he’s part of Australia’s coaching team, hoping to turn the tables on the very tourists he once helped defeat.

Parling’s last appearance in an England shirt was during the 2015 Rugby World Cup, when Australia ended the hosts' tournament dreams in a dramatic knockout.

Fast forward to 2023, and Parling’s career has taken a new direction after Eddie Jones’ departure, joining Joe Schmidt’s revamped coaching staff Down Under.

While Parling's playing days saw him finish up in Melbourne, his time in Australia didn’t stop with the boots. He’s stayed in the land of the Wallabies and transitioned into coaching.

Now, with the Northern Hemisphere teams set to tour, Parling's short return to England will be bittersweet if his Aussie side get the better of them.

In an interview with the Rugby Union Weekly podcast, Parling shared his thoughts: “It’s really, really exciting but you’ve also got to perform. As we know, it can go one of two ways.

"So I’m excited, but not just for the Lions. We’ve got two Tests against Wales and one against Georgia in July, and I’m buzzing for those too.”

Reflecting on his time with Dave Rennie in 2020, Parling added, “That was during Covid, and my family couldn’t come to any of the games. This time, I’m excited that my wife and three kids will be there to experience an international game while I’m coaching.

"There’s so much to look forward to before that Lions tour, but I do appreciate that it’s a pretty unique opportunity to be involved in again.”
