We’ve decided to give everybody a little review of the second weekend of the 2023 Six Nation by deciding who has been each teams best and worst player.

IRELAND:
BEST PLAYER: CAELAN DORIS
Telegraph 10/10: "A scrap between him and Ardie Savea for the No 8 jersey in a world XV has become a reality. Absurd yet again, his pass for the match-sealing try was as good as they come."
Rugby Pass 9.5/10: "Fabulous on both sides of the ball in Wales, topping his team’s tackle chart and royally carrying the ball, he was the standout Irish performer versus the French, taking the fight to them, especially in the first half when possession was regularly turned into points."
BALLS 10/10: "Yet another superb performance by the No.8 . Was the best player on the pitch. His offload before the Ringrose try was just incredible . Top Ball carrier – 17 EPIC carries."
WORST PLAYER: ROB HERRING
Rugby Pass 6.5/10: "First Six Nations start in two years for the rare enough starter and it sadly didn’t last long, Herring exiting all shook up in the 26th minute after shipping a head-juddering hit from the yellow-carded Uini Atonio."
BALLS 7/10: "Lasted just 26mins due to a high hit by Antonio and was forced off. Had started well with 6 tackles in the 1st quarter."
FRANCE:
BEST PLAYER: DAMIEN PENAUD
Telegraph 10/10: "Astonishing. One of the all-time great wing performances. An irrepressible force on the French flanks who repeatedly made one of the world's best defences look foolish."
Rugby Pass 8.5/10: "The arch-finisher’s 17th-minute effort was summoned straight out of the French book of Magic Tries."
Planet Rugby 8.5/10: "Continues to show that he is one of the best in the business."
WORST PLAYER: UINI ATONIO
Planet Rugby 4/10: "A forgettable performance from the tighthead prop who cost his side when he was sent to the sin bin for a high tackle on Rob Herring. He was also caught out for the opening try from Hugo Keenan."
Telegraph 6/10: "Extremely lucky that his annihilation of Herring ended up as yellow and not red. Scrummaged his heart out after his return but a man of his size should offer more."
SCOTLAND:
BEST PLAYER: FINN RUSSELL
The Offside Line 10/10: "World class,"
Rugby Pass 8.5/10: "Provided a stunning offload for Steyn’s first score and a perfect kick for the winger’s second. The same combination so nearly linked up in the first half too. When Scotland click he’s usually at the heart of it."
WORST PLAYER: ZANDER FAGERSON
Rugby Pass 6/10: "Still giving away far too many silly penalties, including the one that let Wales back into the game. Worked hard and the pick of the front five defensively with 17 tackles."
Planet Rugby 6/10: "A solid first game back from the tighthead, but the scrum was not really a factor in the game."
WALES:
BEST PLAYER: CHRIST TSHIUNZA
Planet Rugby 6/10: "There were very few positives for Wales in the match but Tshiunza was one.:
WORST PLAYER: DAN BIGGAR
Wales Online 4/10: "“Who the f**k do you think you are?” Biggar asked Ben White amid a mini dust-up on the half-hour mark. Wales’ fly-half found it hard to ask questions of Scotland’s defence, though."
Planet Rugby 3/10: "A blow-par performance from the Wales pivot who missed a sitter of a penalty, by his high standards, in the first half. The Welsh attack did not fire at all with the playmaker on the pitch, and he was outplayed"
Rugby Pass 2/10: "Gave away a daft offside penalty, shanked a couple of kicks and flung a pass behind his back into touch on the stroke of half time. Looked frustrated all first half. Was far from his best last week, but was an active problem today."
ENGLAND:
BEST PLAYER: OLLIE LAWRENCE
Rugby Pass 9/10: "So that’s what an inside centre looks like. His first carry showed what England misses out on when a fly-half dons the 12 jersey."
WORST PLAYER: OLLIE HASSELL-COLLINS
Rugby Pass 6/10: "Completely absent from the game. Perhaps a sign of England’s inability to string together a backline move that unleashes the flyers on the wing."
ITALY:
BEST PLAYER: SEBASTIEN NEGRI
Planet Rugby 9/10: " Finished with 83 metres gained from 14 carries and also caught the eye with excellent defence as he finished with eight tackles made."
WORST PLAYER: STEPHEN VARNEY
Planet Rugby 5/10: "Another indifferent performance from the Gloucester scrum-half, who struggled during the opening half behind a retreating pack."
