Anthony Watson's first half try combined with a penalty apiece from Owen Williams and Owen Farrell gave England a narrow 8-3 lead at the break.

Winger Louis Rees-Zammit briefly put the hosts in front after the restart before Kyle Sinckler's try recaptured the lead for England.

Wales pushed for a winner late on but Borthwick's men made the win safe when Ollie Lawrence crossed the whitewash with six minutes to go.
