England player ratings vs Italy: Who shone and who flopped in Rome?

15 Mike Brown: His defence was suspect all afternoon. He also saw very little of it in his hands and didn’t look to get involved as much as he usually does. 6/10

14 Anthony Watson: The winger looks like he's put on a lot of muscle yet has retained his lightning burst of pace. Took his two tries expertly but drifted out of the game a little in the second half. 8.5/10

13 Ben Te’o: Defensively tested and stood up to the challenge. Considering he hasn't played a lot of rugby, the powerful centre put in a decent display. 6.5/10

12 Owen Farrell: His goalkicking wasn't squeaky clean but he scored a good try before setting up schoolmate Ford in the second half. Made breaks, zipped passes to runners going through holes and defended well with an unfamiliar man outside of him. 8/10

11 Jonny May: He's had a great season with Leicester but by his high standards he had a poor game today. Was at fault for the first try and hardly threatened. 6/10

10 George Ford: A relatively quiet day for the fly-half. His axis with Farrell continues to impress though with Ford collecting from the Saracens man to score England's fifth. 7.5/10

9 Ben Youngs: Suffered a serious looking knee injury after 10 minutes and had to be stretchered off. N/A

8 Sam Simmonds: Tackled everything that moved. Then secured the bonus-point with a try on his Six Nations debut before adding a second late one. An eye-catching performance for sure. 9/10

7 Chris Robshaw: His work rate throughout was simply phenomenal. He was everywhere and cleared out ruck after ruck. 7.5/10

6 Courtney Lawes: Started superbly in defence as he tackled everything in blue that moved. Didn't look out of place in the back-row, impressing particularly with his high-flying lineout work. 8/10

5 Maro Itoje: Looks like England’s new enforcer, and is the first to confront the opposition in times of conflict. Not quite the same impact as Chris Robshaw defensively, but he was formidable in the air. 7.5/10

4 Joe Launchbury: Kept fairly quiet of any standout moments, but did well to lead the line and tackled with vigour. 7/10

3 Dan Cole: Potentially the best tighthead in Europe on his day. Bullied his opposite number and actually showed some good hands for Owen Farrell's try. 8/10

2 Dylan Hartley (c): His normal reliable self in the lineout. Tackled and carried well, too before he departed on the hour for Jamie George. 7/10

1 Mako Vunipola: His ball carrying for a prop is on another level. Also passed and scrummaged consistently well, as always. 8/10
