Elliot Daly: Real reason Saracens star left out of England squad revealed

There was no explanation given for his mysterious absence in today's 31-man squad announcement, however, Jones has confirmed that the speedster has a slight knock and will be unable to train for the rest of week.

“Elliot has had a bump on his leg for a good period of time. It hasn’t really worried him and he’s been able to train,” Jones said.

“We’re not sure what’s wrong so we’re going to get some tests done and we’ll wait and see what the answer is. I’d rather not say which part of his leg it is, let’s just wait and see.

“We’ll do all the various tests and he’ll see a consultant and then we’ll have a pretty good idea of where he’s at.”

There are 11 uncapped players included within the squad, five of whom are backs in the shape of Saracens wing Ali Crossdale, Northampton centre Fraser Dingwall and scrum-half Alex Mitchell, Worcester centre Ollie Lawrence and Gloucester wing Ollie Thorley.

In the forwards, there are six more uncapped players: Harlequins back-row Alex Dombrandt, Bath hooker Tom Dunn, Northampton locks Alex Moon and David Ribbans, and Leicester prop Joe Heyes.

Daly is set to be fine for England's Six Nations finale against Italy.

Daly played his early rugby at Beckenham from age five before moving to Dorking in 2006, where he spent three years. He was educated at Cumnor House School and Whitgift School, after which he joined Wasps' Elite Player Development Squad.

Daly is just the second ever man to play for and against the Lions after facing them for the Barbarians four years previous.

He celebrated his first senior start for his country with a monster left-footed penalty against South Africa in November 2016 and the following week had his maiden Test try against Fiji. He is the master of monster kicks.

Daly was a talented cricketer as a teenager, representing England Under-15s and Surrey at various age-group levels. He was an all-rounder, with fast bowling his forte, and appeared good enough to possibly make the first-class county grade before he chose rugby union. He's also a big cricket fan

The fullback met his gorgeous girlfriend when he was still at school. The pair met at the £18,618-a-year Whitgift School for boys in Croydon, south London, where Daly, 28, was a pupil and she worked as a sports events organiser – although they were both 18 at the time.

He got his nickname, Briefcaser, after the back turned up at his first Wasps training session in his Whitgift school uniform and carrying you know what!

His best mate Winston has his own Instagram profile, boasting over 11,000 followers.
