Eight Crazy Things You Didn’t Know About Stuart Hogg

Hogg got married in 2016 to long-term partner Gill and they have three children together, Archie, Olivia and George.

In 2012, following his Scotland debut, he discovered he was a distant relative of George Best. A close relative of Best recognised the link after seeing Hogg play on television.

Hogg said at the time: “It turns out my granny’s granny was the sister of George’s great-grandfather.”

Hogg comes from a talented rugby family in the Borders. His father, John, played as a championship winning full-back for Hawick before becoming a rugby referee. His brother, Graham, has played for Scotland in the IRB Sevens World Series as well as representing his country at under-18, under-19 and under-20.

"I’ve always hated snakes. When I was young I went to Deep Sea World near Edinburgh and there were snakes there. I was the only one who got to touch them. Even if they’re on the telly, I’ll lift my feet off the ground and get them up on the couch."

He is also briefly mentioned on Pottermore, in an excerpt written by JK Rowling for the website, suggesting that he and fellow players Jim Hamilton and Kelly Brown are in fact squibs – wizard-born with no magical powers masquerading as muggles. However, Rowling later mentioned that the fleet-footed Stuart Hogg might be a full wizard.

He's one of only two players to win consecutive Player of the Six Nations (2016 & 2017) awards, the other being Brian O'Driscoll.

As this archive video from BordersRugby.net shows, Hogg, who started as a fly-half before moving to fullback, has developed his attacking flair from a very young age.
