Eddie Jones stuck abroad as summer tour likely to be cancelled

England head coach Eddie Jones is currently stuck in Japan due to the coronavirus pandemic and the travel restrictions that they have brought.

His side were due to travel there this summer for a Test series against last year's World Cup hosts, but those matches are now looking increasingly unlikely to go ahead.

They have not yet been called off but there is now only the slimmest of chances that England will be touring this summer.

"I was due to go to Australia to see my mother, who’s 95, at the end of the Six Nations for her 95th birthday," Jones is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

"But given the situation – if I went back there I would have to self-isolate – and my wife wanted to be near her family so we came to Japan.

"At the moment we are just going to continue to assess the situation. I can do the job by video and technology.

"We would like to be back in the country but we will wait and see and wait for the appropriate time to come back."
