Eddie Jones responds to reports of fallout with Danny Care Joe Marler

With Sale Sharks powerhouse Bevan Rodd labelled the future, Eddie Jones seems comfortable moving forward with Ellis Genge and Mako Vunipola as his experienced loosehead’s moving forward.

Their relationship was further strained after Marler declared that Jones decision to replace 80-cap Danny Care after just 36 minutes ‘lacked respect’ during the summer tour of Australia.

However, the Aussie has insisted today that the Harlequins prop remains in his thoughts despite his second straight omission.

“I had a chat with him this morning, he’s working hard on his game and he knows what he needs to do," Jones said.

"We have got some great competition there. It is a position we are rich in when they are all fit. We can only take three to the World Cup, the three who have the most consistent form and play the best will get selected."

He also mentioned scrum-half Care, saying: "We’ll have three half-backs - one who can run a game, one who can do something really exciting, your Randall or Mitchell type, and one with experience which will be Benny or Danny Care.

"That’s the plan at the moment, all the half-backs are aware of it and then it’s who is the most consistent, who puts himself up for selection."

Sam Simmonds confirmed he will be joining Montpellier this week with five other players possibly joining him overseas.

‘There is another argument that if England paid them more per game, that’s another way of bridging the gap. Players add up the whole package,’ Exeter boss Rob Baxter said. 

‘That will cause some debate because England players are pretty well paid compared to some other nations.’

Three England players who are staying put are Freddie Steward, Jack van Poortvliet and George Martin who have all agreed new Leicester deals.
