"Deliberate & intentional" - Springbok star accused of feigning injury

The latest claims came after Damian de Allende was seen receiving treatment from the team doctor after 25 minutes, despite appearing to show little sign of an injury.

De Allende had just carried the ball and did not appear to be hurt, only going down for treatment after the Springboks knocked the ball on. The timing of the stoppage led some fans to question whether it was an attempt to slow the game down.

The incident came as the All Blacks were beginning to build momentum, with the stoppage seemingly disrupting New Zealand's flow.

X user @Rugby_Scoop criticised the incident, writing: "You have to give to the Springboks. Personally I don’t understand how officials can’t stamp out deliberate & intentional time wasting. Damian de Allende just made a good carry earlier and then once Boks knocked the ball, he’s down being checked by the Team Doctor? "

It is worth noting that there was some head contact in the tackle on De Allende, meaning there may have been a genuine reason for the team doctor to become involved. However, from the television footage available, the contact appeared minimal.

There was also another stoppage earlier in the match just as New Zealand were building momentum, although that was caused by an issue with the referee's microphone and cannot be attributed to the Springboks.

Elsewhere on the tour, Erasmus has also frustrated fans by naming his team unusually early before making late changes, with some viewing the tactic as an attempt at mind games. It has led to calls for World Rugby to find a way of preventing teams from exploiting the selection process.
