Dan Carter confirms retirement with emotional statement

"I officially retire from professional rugby today," wrote Carter on social media.

"A sport I’ve played 32 years which has helped shape me into the person I am today.

"I can’t thank everyone who has played a part in my journey enough, particularly you, the fans. Rugby will always be a part of my life. Thank you."

"Two giants of the game that have worn the green jersey were Paul O'Connell and Brian O'Driscoll. Their work rate and how they conducted themselves on and off the pitch was exemplary."
