Canada Player Ratings vs Wales: Women's Rugby World Cup

Wales started brightly as they looked to brush off any cobwebs from their disappointing showing last time out against Scotland. They showed intent and physicality to camp themselves on the Canadian try line for much of the opening minutes.

Wales did not come out with any points but it was a sign of promise. Canada continually tried to run the ball away from their own line as the game was fairly scrappy before the favourites managed to score the first try on the fifteenth minute. McKinley Hunt powered over to stop the Welsh momentum and start a Canadian performance that was clinical and ruthless.

The number two ranked side in the world now had the world at their feet as the flood gates opened nine minutes later. Alysha Corrigan finished off a great team try with offloads galore and plenty of pace. Hunt secured her second in similar fashion to her first and Hogan-Rochester burst through the Welsh defence with the pick of the bunch.

Gabrielle Senft appeared to score Canada's fifth try after half time but it was brought back for a knock on in the build-up. Subsequently, Wales received a yellow card as Georgia Evans was sent to the sin bin for a high tackle.

Fly half Taylor Perry crossed over despite the efforts of Lisa Neumann. The ever outstanding Sophie de Goede was flawless off the tee, adding all the conversions. Brittanny Kassil highlighted Canada's attacking intent with her side's sixth try from a driving maul.

Prop Olivia DeMerchant was shown a yellow card for a high tackle as the match headed into the last twenty minutes and Wales began to show some fight. Canada were able to soak up the pressure whilst down to the fourteen players as Wales had some moments to try and score.

It was all in vain though as Canada put an excellent defensive effort to win 42-0.

Reliable at the back and was part of some neat attacking plays. The wingers outside of her received more ball but Schell did not make any mistakes. Solid performance.

Absolutely rapid and able to put in a real turn of pace. She finished off a brilliant team try where the ball touched most of the team's hands. Corrigan also showed her passing skillset with some lovely offloads.

Astute in both attack and defence. Symonds was a key part of the impressive Canadian backline.

A few strong kicks in open play and put in a great defensive shift. Did well to release the ball to the wide channels to ensure that the wingers were put into a lot of space. A couple of kicks went astray but overall, a good showing.

Combined well on the wing and often ventured in-field to try and create opportunities. Her offloading skills were world class and utilised very well to give Canada momentum. Her try was taken extremely well.

Creator of Corrigan's try and did well at fly half. Ran the show expertly and highlighted her class throughout.

Quick ball from the deck and commanded Canada's performance well. Brought off early in the second half though but she took the game well. Penalised for a croc roll on the tenth minute.

Operated unbelievably throughout. A 48 minute showing and she was absolutely everywhere. Two tries from short range, Hunt often found herself in the back row channels where she was particularly effective.

A couple of wobbles in the lineout but she was best in the scrum. Turned the screw against Wales who struggled to compete with the dominant Canada front row.

Elite show of scrummaging and physicality. Canada utilised her prowess throughout and Wales could not keep up.

Has to be the star of the World Cup so far. De Goede has everything a rugby player could want. Great hands, dominant tackling and an unreal kicking ability, shown by her not missing a single kick off the tee. Simply majestic.

Did well to add her strength to the Canada forwards. She was part of the forwards unit that won the match for Canada and did well to quash any sign of Welsh resilience.

Operated very well at blindside. Strong tackling and secured the ball in the ruck. Should be proud of her performance.

The flanker was all over the pitch for Canada and made certain that her side would be dominant. Did not put a foot wrong all match.

Had a try disallowed, which would have a great reward for her efforts. She was a brilliant link between the forwards and backline. Big tackling and deft hands.

The game was already won by the time the Canada replacements had an impact. Olivia Apps continued where Justine Pelletier left off and Claire Gallagher did well at fly half. Olivia DeMerchant was yellow carded for a high tackle as Wales showed some fight. The replacements off the bench did well to battle against the Welsh and ultimately ensured Wales would not score a single point.
