BREAKING: Sir Ian McGeechan joins RFU to make decision on Eddie Jones

The Mail Online have revealed that Tom De Glanville, Jonathan Webb and Sir Ian McGeechan are three key figures on the review panel.

Jones will learn his fate later this week but the head coach is expecting to be sacked following his poorest year in charge yet.

Sources have told RUCK that the Australian is already resigned to losing his job after his relationship with his bosses went radio silent following the loss to South Africa.

Jones will have one last chance to try and save his job on Monday before Sweeney will make a recommendation to the RFU board on Tuesday, after which a decision will be finalised. 

Conor O'Shea: The former Italy and Harlequins boss is currently part of the RFU review process into Jones and England’s worst year since 2008. The Mail Online has indicated he could take the team on a caretaker business.

Warren Gatland: The Kiwi has been heavily linked with a shock return to coach Wales if Wayne Pivac is sacked. However, the Mail Online has linked him to a caretaker role with England in recent days.

Steve Borthwick: The most obvious contender with his connections as a past England captain and assistant coach under Jones. Reports suggest he could take over from a caretaker following the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Richard Cockerill: RUCK understands that former England hooker and current England forwards coach, who has head coached Leicester and Edinburgh, is in the conversation to lead the men in white for the Six Nations.

Scott Robertson: The kind of out-the-box choice you once felt the RFU would never make – a breakdancing coach at Twickenham? Robertson is a serial winner.

Sources suggest the Aussie will receive an £800,000 pay-out if he is sacked as England boss – but he wouldn’t be able to take another job before the Rugby World Cup.

The RFU had promised a review, but sources indicated they could act before that to bring down the curtain on Jones’s seven-year tenure with the 2003 World Cup winners. 

The Mail Online have reported that senior RFU performance executive Conor O’Shea was canvassing players.

A function involving Jones, senior RFU figures and members of the media was scheduled to take place on Monday, December 5, but that has now been postponed.
