Best free agents: 5 World Cup stars still available to Premiership teams

We’ve rounded up 5 free agents that have previously played International rugby and might be of interest to a few clubs in the coming weeks.

Leading the Eagles at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, the fullback/winger left Cardiff Blues at the end of last season and hasn't signed for a new club. The 31-year-old definitely still has a lot to give.

Former club: Bristol Bears

Position: Number 8

It's not often you get an international captain available on a free. Prioritising the Rugby World Cup over finding a new club after departing Ashton Gate at the end of the last season, the hard-working back-rower could be a useful addition to any Gallagher Premiership squad.

Former club: Chiefs

Position: Lock

The All Blacks legend joins Kobelco Steelers in 2020 and could be available on a short-term contract if any team stumped up enough cash. Probably won't happen.

Former club: NSW Waratahs

Position: Fullback

The fullback is a fantastic rugby player but personally I wouldn't touch him with a ten-foot pole following his sacking by Australian Rugby. Originally getting the boot last year following homophobic outbursts on social media, he's gone onto share various other radical views, which would not be welcome on English shores. Didn't go to the World Cup, but we all know why.

Former club: Racing 92

Position: Lock

The world-class lock was sacked by Racing 92 after returning late from the Rugby World Cup. The 2018 European Player of the Year was due back at the French club on October 28, but Racing said he was absent without permission for two weeks beyond that date. Plenty clubs will be in the mix with Sale Sharks reportedly the early front-runner to sign the Fijian.
