Former Wales Sevens star and Ospreys centre Aled Jenkins has unveiled a revoloutionairy tool for the world of rugby coaching. Jenkins and his start-up team have launched ATHLEET, a cutting-edge team management app designed to give rugby coaches unprecedented insight into player well-being, mindset, and team dynamics.
Billed as a "mindset intelligence platform," ATHLEET allows coaches to track, understand, and improve their squad’s mental readiness alongside their physical preparation, a factor in which is critical to performance but can often go overlooked.
Unveiled at the grass roots level, ATHLEET has already agreed partnerships with clubs across Wales, England and South Africa, with the Ospreys Academy a notable standout. The app enables coaches to get real-time responses from their players, once they've left the rugby club following a training session or match day. It's like having a Director of Rugby's office in your pocket, as the registered players can directly report to the coaching staff with updates regarding their physical fitness and mental well-being.
From Sign-Up to First Insights in Minutes
Getting started is straightforward. Coaches register with an email and password, create a profile, and can immediately set up or join a club, add teams, and invite players. The platform is designed to be frictionless, ensuring coaches get plenty of value from the app as soon as it is set-up. Players simply download the app to their phones from their preferred store, find their team, and start responding to well-being prompts. These short check-ins are delivered via push notifications before and after training sessions or matches, or at any point between from the coaching staff.
Tracking the Invisible Side of Performance
From the player’s perspective, ATHLEET is designed to be fast and intuitive. Using sliders and emoticons, athletes can quickly log energy levels, mood, and injury status in seconds. This builds a continuous picture of each player’s mental well-being, helping coaches identify patterns and potential issues before they impact performance.
A built-in fixture calendar also doubles as a data collection tool, with each match generating a structured post-match journal. Players reflect on their own performance, emotions, and the team’s display, while also nominating an MVP and “workhorse” for outstanding effort — a peer recognition system that fosters a positive culture and builds the camaraderie, even after the changing room has emptied out.
Data That Coaches Have Never Had Before
For coaches, the dashboard aggregates all well-being and journal data into clear, actionable insights. Trends can be spotted at both team and individual levels, allowing for timely interventions and tailored support. The peer-voting data also offers a unique lens into team dynamics, often revealing contributions that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Comments from players can be optionally anonymous, and add further depth, enabling more open communication from numbers 1 to 15. With this intelligence, coaches can make evidence-based decisions, refine training priorities, and boost player confidence week after week.
