Another All Black sent home from South Africa with immediate effect

The powerful winger will return to New Zealand after scans revealed he ruptured a tendon in his shoulder during Tuesday night's clash with the Sharks.

Clarke was involved in New Zealand's thumping 54-0 victory in Durban, but the injury has now brought his involvement in the Rugby's Greatest Rivalry tour to a premature end.

All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie confirmed Clarke would head home, although New Zealand will not call up an injury replacement at this stage.

It is the latest setback for the All Blacks ahead of their eagerly anticipated Test series against the Springboks.

Clarke becomes the latest player to be forced home from South Africa during what has already been a bruising tour for Rennie's squad.

Hooker George Bell was previously ruled out after suffering a calf injury in training, while centre Billy Proctor was sent home after scans revealed a fractured shoulder blade.

Proctor is expected to be sidelined for around 10 to 12 weeks.

New Zealand subsequently added Richie Mo'unga to their touring squad, marking his return to the All Blacks set-up for the first time since the 2023 Rugby World Cup final.

Clarke's departure further reduces Rennie's options as preparations ramp up for the main event of the tour.

The All Blacks face the Springboks at Ellis Park on Saturday, 22 August, in the opening Test of their blockbuster series.

With the injuries continuing to mount, Rennie will be hoping Clarke is the last player he has to send home before the Test action gets underway.
