As the All Blacks endured their most significant loss in history, New Zealand lock Scott Barrett was shown a red card. Barrett was handed two yellow cards during the match.
His second yellow came as a result of a dangerous clearout to the head of hooker Malcolm Marx, a decision that was reviewed by the TMO (Television Match Official) in the 'bunker'.
South Africa took the lead with tries from Siya Kolisi and Kurt-Lee Arendse, followed by additional second-half scores courtesy of Marx, Bongi Mbonambi, and Kwagga Smith.
This defeat surpassed the All Blacks' previous record loss, which had been a margin of 21 points back in 1999 and 2019.
