Time catches up with every rugby player eventually, but for some former stars the transformation after retirement has been so dramatic that fans barely recognise them.
From incredible body transformations to hair transplants and complete style changes, here are five rugby icons who look very different today.
5. Phil Vickery (England)
From World Cup-winning prop to gym fanatic
Former England captain and 2003 Rugby World Cup winner Phil Vickery built his reputation as one of the toughest front-row forwards of his generation.
During his playing days, Vickery was known for his stocky frame and immense power at scrum time. Since retirement, however, he has undergone a remarkable physical transformation, embracing fitness and bodybuilding-style training.
Photos of the former prop regularly leave fans stunned, with many struggling to believe it's the same player who once packed down in England's front row.
4. Mike Tindall (England)
The blonde-haired centre looks very different today
When Mike Tindall burst onto the international scene, he was instantly recognisable thanks to his blonde hair and famously crooked nose, earned through years of brutal collisions.
Fast forward to today and the former England centre sports a shaved head and has undergone reconstructive surgery on his nose.
While still instantly recognisable to rugby fans, the transformation from his playing days is striking.
3. George Kruis (England)
The dramatic weight-loss transformation
Former England and British & Irish Lions lock George Kruis always carried plenty of bulk during his playing career.
Following retirement, Kruis shed a significant amount of weight and embraced a much leaner physique.
The former Saracens star has spoken openly about changing his lifestyle after rugby, and recent photographs have left supporters amazed at just how much different he looks compared to his Test career.
2. Alun Wyn Jones (Wales)
Wales legend's new look
Few players have been as instantly recognisable as Wales and Lions legend Alun Wyn Jones.
For most of his career, Jones sported a thinning hairstyle that became part of his trademark look. Since retiring from professional rugby, the former Wales captain has undergone a hair transplant.
The results have been impossible to miss, with fans regularly commenting on his refreshed appearance whenever he appears on television or at rugby events.
1. Richie McCaw (New Zealand)
The 27kg transformation that shocked rugby fans
Richie McCaw retired as arguably the greatest rugby player of all time, leading New Zealand to back-to-back Rugby World Cup titles and becoming synonymous with endurance, toughness and leadership.
Since stepping away from rugby, McCaw has transformed his physique dramatically, reportedly losing around 27kg as he pursued new challenges including endurance events and aviation.
The leaner, lighter version of the All Blacks legend looks almost unrecognisable compared to the battle-hardened flanker who dominated world rugby for over a decade.
For many fans, no former player has undergone a more dramatic post-retirement transformation than McCaw.
