We take at five players who flopped during the opening round of the 2022/23 Premiership season, including a disappointing England star.
PREMIERSHIP ROUND ONE RESULTS:
PLAYERS WHO UNDERPERFORMED:
#1. Niall Annett (Bath Rugby)
Somerset Live - 0/10: "Red carded after getting involved in some afters while he was warming up in the deadball area."
Annett said after the game on Twitter: Just want to apologise to everyone associated with
Bath.
“Not how I saw my first game going and deeply embarrassed and disappointed in myself. Players, staff, fans and everyone else associated, sorry for my actions.
#2. Freddie Burns (Leicester Tigers)
Leicestershire Live - 6/10: "His yellow card was a moment of madness after chasing back extremely well following a grubber after Gopperth’s kick was charged down but instead of dotting the ball down, under pressure he swiped the ball into touch."
#3. Bryan Bryne (Bristol Bears)
Bristol Live - 5/10: "The hooker had a difficult day in the lineout with Bristol coming a distant second best in that particular setpiece area, getting picked off on several occasions."
#4. Ian Whitten (Exeter Chiefs)
Devon Live - 5/10: "Went for a baffling pass in the direction of Solomone Kata in the first half that he was lucky did not land in the hands of Harry Potter. A miscommunication with Jack Maunder caused a knock-on that ruled out a Patrick Schickerling try that could have put the game to bed."
#5. Zach Kibirige (Wasps)
Coventry Live - 6/10: "A very quiet game for the right winger, who is now five tries from his last 15."
