Whether you play rugby yourself or have friends who do, you will surely recognise these players that always pop up in every game of rugby.
1. The Gobby One
Often the smallest player on the pitch yet makes a racket like you wouldn’t believe. Usually found either bossing around much bigger players or yapping at the ref. Often a scrum-half.
2. The drunk
Staggering into the changing room with a litre bottle of Lucozade and bloodshot eyes, Darren is the person you avoid at all costs. He’s a loose cannon, he’s just been on the razz, and he only turned up because ‘it keeps the fitness levels up’.
3. The Veteran
He’s still playing at 47, has had the same shorts since 1987, played in every single position on the field since he made his club debut sometime back in 1974 and simply will not pack it in
4. Non-training prop
Been at the club 11 years and has never trained once, but he’s a prop so is always guaranteed to play.
5. The International Wildcard
No-one knows exactly how he found the club. He just turned up one day.
6. The cliche spouter
Often has absolutely no knowledge of the game, but like a 4-year-old child has been around the game long enough to repeat ‘useful’ phrases.
7. The Kid
This is a genuinely talented 17-year-old who has somehow wound up playing with a group of blokes that are nowhere near as fit or good as the boy wonder.
8. The fitness freak
All engine, no technique.
9. The Useless One
A player who has absolutely no concept of any rules yet throws them-self round like a rabid animal. As likely to have a moment of magic as they are to give away a penalty.
10. The Kitman
Inevitably there is always that one player who forgets an essential bit of kit (every week). Fortunately, every team has that one person who always has three of everything meaning that there are never any problems with missing kit.
11. Thousand Yard Stare
Someone who is so calm before a game that they may as well not be there. Happy to sit in total silence for hours before a game, they may as well not be there for all the input they have during the team’s pre-match ritual, but come game time, that all changes.
12. Clubman Of The Year
Trains religiously every week, commitment of a jack russell digging for a bone, paints the stands, mows the pitches, full of energy and positivity even when you are 27 points behind, it’s pissing it down and you’ve not been out of your own 22 for the entire half. You want to murder him.
