"Furious" - Ospreys fans react to club's upcoming collapse - Owners reported for Cardiff takeover

It has become clearer that Ospreys is set to be the region cut to bring Wales’ professional sides down to three, with the belief that owners Y11 Sports and Media are set to take over Cardiff.

Cardiff went into a short period of administration back in April 2025, with the WRU governing body agreeing to take them over. As they sought to find a new investor, it was believed by multiple outlets that Y11 was the preferred bidder for the capital-based side.

Ospreys fans are left furious, with supporters clubs begging that “the least our supporters deserve is a full explanation” as they seek answers from the prospective buyers of Cardiff.

Popular rugby youtuber, turned TV analyst, Squidge Rugby is a long-time Ospreys fan. His usual excited and interesting tone has fallen flat as he has shared his thoughts, not only as an expert, but as a fan of the club.

In recent days, he has shared posts of determination that his boyhood club may still survive, calling out the WRU to address their involvement with the sale, as well his own feelings of loss for the community he has made himself a part of.

This has been going on so long I'd completed so many stages of grief that now it's happening all I have left is acceptance. A huge part of my life is ending this week. I'll be angry again before too long but right now I just feel nothing.

Not just the Ospreys fans are calling out against both parties, but rugby fans across the UK and Ireland. Munster, Leicester, and fans of all clubs have spoken out with sympathy for those in the Ospreys region.

Including those, of course in Wales. Fans of neighbouring regions: Scarlets, Dragons, and especially Cardiff have all voiced their concerns against the WRU and Y11 as the existence of the Ospreys becomes ever more in the balance.

Will wait and see what it all means for us as Cardiff supporters in the coming days and weeks, but mostly tonight feeling for the players and staff at both clubs, and particularly the supporters of Ospreys. A dark night in the history of Welsh rugby.

The removal of the Ospreys would take away a side that have won four Celtic Leagues/Pro12s, which would mark them as the most successful of the Welsh regions.

It would remove as well a region that covers a large part of the rugby heartlands in Wales, forming from the collaboration between Swansea and Neath RFC, as well as covering Aberavon and Bridgend.

So if Ospreys as an entity disappear, Swansea-based supporters’ team will be Cardiff-based, and Bridgend will feed into a team traditionally which are one of their main rivals? As a Bridgend-based supporter I will never support a team with Cardiff in its name, simple as that. 🖕

There has been speculation of the two regions coming together to form one “super region”, but with such strong rivalries across the Swansea-Cardiff area at Super Rygbi Cymru level and down, it would appear to alienate a lot of fans within the middle of the two clubs.
