Home-grown talent signs first senior contract with Harlequins

Harlequins have confirmed that rising back-row star Zach Carr has signed a new senior contract, cementing his place as one of the club’s brightest homegrown prospects.

Carr, 21, has been part of the Quins pathway since the age of 15, progressing from Dulwich College and Battersea Ironsides into the Senior Academy ahead of the 2022/23 season. He made an immediate impression, debuting in the Premiership Rugby Cup against London Irish and scoring his first senior try just a week later versus Saracens. His rapid rise continued with England U20 honours.

This season, Carr has taken another significant step, making his Gallagher Premiership debut off the bench against Bath and becoming a regular in the matchday squad. He now boasts 16 senior appearances across all competitions.

Speaking after signing his first full senior deal, Carr said he was “really proud” to extend his stay.

“This place has been home from day one. The last year has been huge for my growth as a player and as a person. I’ve gone through some difficult times away from rugby and the Club has backed me through every high and low. I’m incredibly grateful and I can’t wait to keep contributing.”

Senior coach Jason Gilmore hailed him as the squad’s “biggest improver” over the past 12 months, praising his work ethic and explosive ball-carrying alongside Chandler Cunningham-South.

Another homegrown talent rising fast—Quins fans will like the sound of that.
