Northampton, despite the dismissal of Tom Wood for a stamping offence in a frenzied second half, fought back from a 22-6 first-half deficit to win this play-off for the final place in next season’s European Champions Cup.
The England flanker who may now miss the tour of Argentina because of suspension, was sent off in the 64th minute by John Lacey, the Irish referee.
He was caught by TV cameras stamping on the head of Djibril Camara, the Stade full back.
