Red Roses set to face Spain in Women’s Rugby World Cup warm-up clash

John Mitchell’s side will take on Las Leonas in what promises to be a competitive warm-up fixture, before travelling to Mont-de-Marsan a week later to face France on August 9th.

Spain come into the match with plenty of momentum, having claimed the WXV 3 title last autumn with a perfect record. Wins over Madagascar, the Netherlands, and Fiji sealed their spot in this year’s Rugby World Cup – their first appearance since 2017.

Several familiar faces from the Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) will be lining up for Spain, bringing both international experience and domestic form to the squad. Among them: prop Laura Delgado (Gloucester-Hartpury) back row Alba Capell (Sale Sharks Women) versatile forward Carmen Castellucci (Gloucester-Hartpury) fullback Claudia Pena (Harlequins Women) and hooker Cristina Blanco (Trailfinders Women).
